3D letter making for my slogan "To die for" for my design issues article which focuses on issues such as fur in the fashion industry, Cotton mills - slavery and illness due to bad conditions and lack of safety precautions and the rate of suicide due the the conditions and sweatshops and factories in China.
I have experimented using paper sewn together with yarn as well as wire intwinned with yarn to represent the cotton mills
I have used modroc to create a large 3D stable letter D which I will use as a Base for sticking some things on, I have mind mapped some ideas and I will test those which I think will be the most successful.
I had the idea of working my slogan "To die for" into a cage and creating a cube as my 3D logo, I have been testing different fonts and placements ton find which would be the most legible in my final design, I had a little bit of a struggle trying to find a font where the "F" could be read clearly and I also had to make sure the font and placement didn't make the "i" in "Die" disappear into the bars of the cage.
I found that once photographed, my finished cube cages weren't very legible due to the writing on the opposite side confusing the letters on the front, this made it very difficult to read and I didn't like the way it looked so I decided to try out some different shapes and sizes of the actual cage.
These are some of the different shapes and designs I came up with after trying to find a way to make it still look like a cage, but the whole logo be able to be seen and read at once, from one angle.
In the end I decided that I would try to make 3 different half cages, each with a different word of the slogan on and then place them together so when seen from a certain angle they will create a my slogan, fully legible all at once, with nothing behind to confuse or distract from it.
I am very happy with my result, when taking my final photographs, I struggled a little to get the right lighting so there was shadow behind my logo, and i had a small problem with it not being perfectly stood up straight but in future I will use a stronger card to avoid this problem
